Headlines & First Screen

How long should my headline be?

As long as it takes to be specific and not one word longer. Short is not a virtue on its own. A precise twelve-word headline beats a vague four-word one every time. What actually matters is that it can be understood at a glance without re-reading, which is a rhythm question more than a length one.

Next moves

  1. Lead with their problem or their outcome, never with your company name.
  2. Kill adjectives that any competitor could also claim.
  3. Test the squint test: at a glance, is the offer legible without reading?
